Leather Swivel Bar Stools
My wife likes the leather swivel bar stools with backs. The ones that are all black, and just look like, well, chairs. She thinks that out of all the choices available, they're the most sophisticated looking. I don't completely disagree with her. I think they look nice and all, but I have my own ideas about what the perfect set-up is. And a bunch of chairs ain't it. I could actually be content with this general style. But I would go backless so they don't look so normal. And I would also get something painted on the seat. A rock band, a car logo, a beer name, anything to keep it interesting.

My whole idea about this is that if you're going to have a breakfast bar with leather swivel bar stools in front of it to begin with, then that's already something different. Not every home has that kind of floorplan. So, why not go all the way and make it really stand out by getting leather swivel bar stools that stand out. If she had her way, there would be no wow factor. This is the main stumbling block for us though. She doesn't even really want a wow factor. She wants to have a classic "adult" home. I get the feeling that my wife secretly thinks I'm a big child, and maybe it's true to some extent. "Adult" equals stuffy to me. It's not my way at all.
I'm not as into leather as she is, but if that's what we're going with, I want to walk into the place and have my eyes drawn right to those leather swivel bar stools. I want them to be an attention getter. A work of art in their own right. I want friends to come over, see them for the first time, and not sit down right away because they want to look at them first.
My wife has more refined tastes than I do. She wants leather swivel bar stools that would fit in, in a stylish restaurant or an exclusive club. I keep telling her that, that would be fine if we were running one of those. But this should be a fun thing. She's not buying it though. She just says that we have different notions about fun. I don't know who she's trying to fool though. I distinctly remember someone who looked exactly like her sitting beside me on the Kingda Ka roller coaster at Great Adventure, screaming her head off. That's not exactly a night at the opera there.
My biggest gripe is that she isn't willing to compromise much on the matter. She wants to have those leather swivel bar stools look exactly the way that she wants them. I don't know why it's so important to her. At least if she would throw me a bone and let me put something there that's flashy, that would be something. But she's just dead set and I don't know how to change her mind on the matter.
